HEMA finds it important that its products make a positive contribution to everyday life. This is why HEMA has developed something new as a result of which you can sleep with more peace of mind: the rPET duvet and pillow. This bedding is filled with fibres from recycled PET material and is therefore a sustainable alternative to traditional filling. As an introduction, the rPET duvet and pillow will be for sale for the next two weeks both in the shops and online. After that, the bedding will only be available online via hema.com.
Better for the world, soft for you
With the use of rPET products, you ensure a considerably lower CO2 footprint and a reduction in the leftover material that would otherwise end up as landfill. The rPET duvet and pillow are not only better for the environment, they are also lovely and soft! You will not notice any difference with another synthetic duvet or pillow. The duvet is available in four different sizes and is also easy to wash (up to 60 degrees) and is suitable for the dryer in the normal position.
Origin of rPET
The rPET filling is manufactured from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This mainly comes from used PET bottles and other PET packaging without a deposit. They are collected via various channels in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, France and Scandinavia. The PET material then goes through a strictly monitored sorting, grinding and washing process and it is made into flakes in a Dutch factory. Then the flakes are remelted and blown into fibres. Finally, the duvets and pillows are filled with these fibres.
The covers of the rPET duvet and pillow are made from 100% certified organic cotton. This means that the cotton comes from the organic agricultural sector. For growing and harvesting this cotton, no artificial fertilizer or chemical pesticides are used that can cause soil depletion. Thanks to this, the soil where the cotton is grown is more vital and has a better balanced eco system than with cotton that is not grown organically. In addition, in the factories attention is also paid to waste management and water and energy consumption. The organic cotton that is used for the rPET products complies with the strict requirements set forth by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
